UNICORN CRYSTALS
Unicorns have a talent at most nature based magic. Learning from any book or website is usually fine. Look up each stone individually to learn more about the crystal or stone. Each one has their own magical talents and can be further programmed with specific intentions (such as connecting with unicorns). Unicorn shaped or carved crystals often are considered attractive to unicorn entities.

Any stone that makes you think of a unicorn or really calls to you or strikes you as unicorn-like probably has some unicorn magic in it. Even if that magic is special for you, any rock you see on the ground or in a store could potentially help you heal and unlock your unicorn connection.

Unicorns are skilled at lots of crystals, in particular Apophyllite, rose quartz, opal, ruby, diamond, quartz, Clinozoisite, Angel Aura, Selenite Golden Labradorite, Tree Agate, Moss Agate, Blue Lace Agate, Satin Spar, Selenite, Crackle Quartz, Amethyst, Blue Goldstone, Rainbow Moonstone and silver.

The unicorn is deeply connected to the moon and is highly attuned to the metal silver and additionally it is also said to be skilled at tin and in some accounts mercury as well.

The unicorn relationship to gold is mixed. Some unicorns like it, some do not. Some historical accounts of unicorns describe gold as being prone to making unicorns sleepy. Other accounts say that their horn or hooves may have gold on them or be made of gold.

Unicorn horn shaped shells are often associated with the Unicorn. Ivory, which comes from living animals is also associated with unicorns. Fossils such as mammoth tusk were sometimes thought to be unicorn horns and have the powers.

They are associated with legendary Carbuncle (ruby like stone that grows on the foreheads and below the horns of some unicorns). This strengthens the unicorn connection to ruby.

CARBUNCLE
Some stories say that the stone is a collection of blood that is somehow related to the unicorn's attributed curative powers. The following information was obtained from the Lore of the Unicorn (1930) by Odell Shepard. You can read it for free at and there's a copy in our group files section.

Unknown to many people, Alexander the Great had an influence on unicorn history and lore. The following poem is a rough translation of a gift from Queen Candace to Alexander. The gift was a magnificent unicorn and here is what he writes:
I had from this rich queen
A beast of proud and noble mien
That bears in his brow the ruby-stone
And yields himself to maids alone.
But few such unicorns are found
On this or any other ground,
And only such are ever captured
As stainless virgins have enraptured.
No man of woman born
Endures the terror of his horn.

To describe what this poem means I will break it down. This gleaming stone is a red ruby-like "carbuncle, an enchanted stone thought to signify wisdom or age in a unicorn. This stone is possibly Levantine in orgin. The author is Pfaffen Lamprecht, who introduced many exotic stories, concepts and ideas. The rest is similar to Physiologus except for the unicorn's scarcity. This notation can be attributed to Aelian concepts.

Another poem which is in Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parfal mentions the carbuncle, or karfunkelstein. It is noted as a potent medicine. This poem tells how they healed the wound of Anfortas, King of the Grail.
We caught the beast called Unicorn
That knows and loves a maiden best
And falls asleep upon her breast;
We took from underneath his horn
The splendid male carbuncle-stone
Sparkling against the white skull-bone.
Many times they are attributed to male unicorns.

Notes: Carbuncle stones are said to be red stones under the horn of a unicorn that have magical properties.
HORNS
All horns seem to be associated with the unicorn including the oryx and other antelopes. Many times they have been sold off as unicorn horns. The legendary Rhinga is said to have one horn (on the male, females are hornless) but there have not been any recent accounts. Rhinos were often hunted for their horns which were sold off as unicorn horns. Some rhino species are now extinct from overhunting.
IVORY

Narwhals, elephants and walruses paid the price for the human greed surrounding unicorn horns. Both were sold ground up, whole or in chunks to people as “unicorn horn.” These are animal tusks. Narwhal horns help the animals navigate the sea by detecting minute changes in the nature of the ocean and its chemical composition. Walrus tusks were boiled until malleable, twisted and straightened then later sold off as unicorn horns. Similar treatments were done on elephant ivory. People would find Mammoth tusks under ground and confused would think it was cave dwelling unicorns.

FOSSIL/BONE

Some bones were sold as unicorn bones or horn which were said to have magical properties. because of that, some fossils and bones may have magical or metaphysical attributes related to the unicorn, especially unicorn shaped shell fossils or certain dinosaur fossils.
